Camaro Convertible Subwoofer Enclosure – Stealthbox

Posted on August 20th, 2011 in News, Product Information, Uncategorized by :: No Comments

Convertibles – designed for cruising on sunny days and wide open roads. While the sound of the wind whistling in by is fun for a while the perfect soundtrack playing loud and clearly makes for the ultimate driving experience. The new generation Chevy Camaro is the latest top down machine from Detroit, and it’s mean – from it’s looks, to it’s power plant under the hood. Unfortunatly the engineers forgot to give this muscle car the kick it deserves when it comes to serious bass and a solid sounding stereo system.

Camero Convertible Subwoofer Enclosure Solution

Subwoofer Solution for Chevy Camero Convertibles

We offer a wide range of upgrades for the Camaro’s stereo system and the first place we start with most systems is with a subwoofer. Subs deliver emotion and impact to your music, without those low frequncies it just doesn’t sound lively. The first step is to select an enclosure or “box” that will fit the vehicle and then integrate an amplifier with the factory stereo so it all works in harmony.

JL Audio has delivered another one of their renowned Stealthbox solutions, specifically designed for convertible Camaro. This unique solution comes in 2 parts allowing it to fit through the convertibles trunk opening. Once in place the 2 10″ subwoofers fire into the floor of the vehicle, “loading” the bass off the floor for enhanced output. Your home theatre subwoofer probably uses the same principle, giving you more bass for free – a good thing in a rag top!

Come in to Driven Audio or give us a call (604-746-3110) and let us help you get your Camaro tuned up today!

Solutions are also available for:

1993 – 2002  Chevrolet Camaro / Pontiac Firebird

2010 – Up  Chevrolet Camaro – Hardtops

Give your Harley some Kick with the PS5250 Harley Davidson Speaker Upgrade

Posted on August 8th, 2011 in News, Product Information by :: No Comments

We all know that the Harley Davidson speakers that come stock on bikes (or in cars for that matter) were the bare minimum that they could get away with to sell you the bike. Sure for the first couple rides they sounded OK, but when you love your tunes and want them loud and clear – they just are not enough!.

Kicker knows that too and got together with Harley to develop a perfect speaker upgrade for those weak stock speakers for Harley Davidson Motorcycles. The result is the PS5250 – perfectly weight balanced for your bike (tested by Harley), the correct impedance (load) for your stock Harley Davidson Radio’s amplifier (2 ohm) and Kicker tested to rock when your cruising! The also work great on ATV’s, UTV’s and Golf Carts!

PS5250 by Kicker - Driven Audio Harley Speaker & Grill

Kicker's rocking PS5250 Harley Davidson Speaker with Replacement Grill

Check out all the details from Kicker below, or better yet come in to the store in Abbotsford today for a listen! Our motorcycle speaker display allows you to compare these Harley Davidson Speaker Systems: a stock Harley speaker,  the PS5250, a Hog Tunes speaker and the amazing Arc Audio MPAK4 system. Let your ears do the deciding!

Here is a great review from a happy bike owner:

I purchased these speakers at Daytona Bike Week, and was told that they would be the perfect replacement for the stock speakers in my FLHX. This couldn’t more true. There is no noticeable distortion when turning the volume to 80 or 90 %. They sound great at 75 MPH, unlike the stock units. I highly recommend this product for an inexpensive upgrade to a stock stereo on a Harley Touring bike.

From Kicker:

KICKER® has pushed attitude, passion and Livin’ Loud® to enthusiasts worldwide for several years, and now the brand caters to another core group beginning in 2010 with the Powersports category of premium audio gear and marketing.

KICKER Powersports revs up and takes off with the release of the KICKER PS5250 5.25-inch Coaxial System, a pair of weather-proof coaxials specifically created as fairing drop-ins on motorcycles, or with ATV, UTV, marine, or outdoor systems. High-efficiency, super-lightweight for proper bike handling, and extremely powerful – perfect for those who push it a little harder.

The PS5250 employs a sophisticated, rare-earth neodymium magnet structure. Pound for pound, the neodymium structure is 10-times more powerful than a standard ceramic magnet, allowing high output with extremely low weight. This high magnetic strength and low weight deliver superb transient response and high vocal articulation for the utmost in tonal clarity.

The KICKER PS5250 speaker system is designed to withstand the brutal rigors of the elements and take anything Mother Nature is capable of dishing out. The highest-grade, weather-resistant materials and adhesives were used throughout the design process to create a speaker system for the long haul.

Its advanced midrange and tweeter motor technology has been highly refined using the latest available CAD and FEA computer software. They utilize extremely light-weight, copper-clad aluminum voice coils for increased efficiency and louder volume even when combined with a stock head unit. The mid’s powerful motor also incorporates a finned aluminum heat sink to efficiently pull heat from the motor, increasing long-term power handling. PS5250 cones are built of durable, light-weight polypropylene materials attached to specially designed inverted surrounds providing the most cone excursion in a very compact package.

The incredibly detailed, high-power, 20mm neo-titanium-dome tweeter is bridge-mounted to hold the tweeter suspended over the center of the midbass cone. In effect, the acoustically invisible bridge stands up to extreme vibration encountered in the motorcycle/ATV environment. It all helps to provide high-efficiency in a tweeter that reveals musical detail and clarity at volume levels that can be heard over the roar of the road while wearing a helmet.

A coaxial system with larger, conventional ceramic magnet assemblies adds weight high on the bike, raising the bike’s center of gravity and potentially causing a negative handling effect. PS5250 speakers weigh an amazing 12 ounces each, which does not affect handling.

PS5250 coaxial speakers are available in 2-Ohm resistance to be compatible with 2006-and-later Harley-Davidson® OEM head units, or conventional amplifiers that are 2-Ohm stable per channel.

They include specific replacement grilles for Harley-Davidson’s “Bat-wing” fairing.

Harley-Davidson is a registered trademark of Harley-Davidson Inc.

  • Weather-proof, high-efficiency coaxials specifically created as fairing drop-ins on motorcycles

Motorcycle Stereo Upgrades & Speakers for Harley Davidsons Baggers and more

Posted on August 7th, 2011 in News by :: 3 Comments

When we say we work on anything with a battery and can move, that includes motorcycles. We have never run into a stock Harley Davidson system we were happy with the sound of, and it seems like most bike owners have not either! So what is a rider to do when the tunes do not sound as good as the pipes?

Power

Amplifier and 6.5" Speaker Upgrade being installed.

When most people try to upgrade their stereo, they think the radio is the place to start, we like to start with the power – amplifier power. Most modern radios or “decks” sound OK, but they all lack in power and when your music is competing with wind, road noise and traffic they just can’t keep up. Fortunately we can integrate a power amplifier into a motorcycles audio system easily, and without affecting your bikes warranty, how your system operates or looks. Sounds pretty perfect doesn’t it.

The amplifier solutions we offer fit inside the front faring often with no modification required, or in a saddle bag depending on application and the power you require. Some offer specially design EQ circuits to enhance the bass and sound quality of the smaller speakers that are often used on motorcycles. They are also extremely efficient so they will not present a heavy load to your bike’s electrical system. The best part is that your handle bar controls, radio display & pretty much everything on your bike stays looking the same.

We have a complete selection of amplifiers from Arc Audio, JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate and more, so come in and let us help you select the right power solution for your ride.

Speakers

Once we have addressed the power problem, we tackle the speakers themselves. These are critical in any upgrade to a bikes stereo system. The stock speakers that come with all bikes old or new are pretty much the bare minimum that was required to pass the “floor” test when you purchased your bike. That is a pretty easy task to achieve in a show room, and really how many of us give the stereo a full “test” when we are taking the bike we fell in love with for demo ride. Sadly those stock drivers just don’t cut it when your out on a ride.

Choosing the right upgraded speaker to match your needs is actually easy when you know what to listen and look for. First off ensure that the speaker you are looking at will handle the extra power of the amplifier you selected. Then check to see if the speaker will handle the type of riding conditions it will face. If your a all season rider this is more important than if your a fair weather rider who enjoys getting out for a cruise when time allows.

Lastly, and most importantly listen to the speakers with a few different musical tracks – select a few that you know, and as us to play a few that maybe you don’t know. Try to pick tracks that are different from each other in the volume and style of music. That way you can get a sampling of what the speakers can do for you and your bike.

Often stock speakers are between 4″ and 5.25″ inch in size, we specialize in being able to increase the size of the speakers on your bike up to 6.5″ or 5×7″ where possible. Why upgrade? The two biggest reasons – efficiency (how loud the speaker will play with the power you have) and frequency response (mid-bass and bass response) are both better with a larger driver. When we do these upgrades they are done with the integrity of the bike and mounts in mind. No hacking and cutting here we use specially designed and fabricated brackets ensuring the best performance all while maintaining the integrity of your bike.

Radio, iPod, MP3, XM, Sirius, HD Radio, Navigation, Bluetooth and more

Harley Davidson motorcycle with aftermarket stereo & Handle bar controls

Aftermarket iPod Radio installed in Harley faring, with integrated stock handle bar controls.

Remember earlier we said that the radio’s that come on modern bikes are “pretty good”, to be clear that is certainly not “great” when your looking for the best performance from your system, replacing the radio is advised. The source unit or deck in your bike is where the signal starts, and when you want to get the best performance from your bike, replacing the radio allows you to get the purest music signal you can to deliver to your amplifiers and speakers.

The biggest area of concern for motorcycle owners is ensuring that the unit will work with their bikes handle bar controls for volume, track, mode & seek. When we replace any radio we ensure those controls still work (and can add them if your bike didn’t come with controls!).

Weather and the elements are always a concern when replacing electronics in an open air vehicle, doubly so on a bike. We offer weatherproof covers that seal out the elements from your radio and help keep wandering eyes from seeing your upgrades.

We also specialize in integrating the latest technologies with your bike – iPods, Smartphones, MP3 players, Satellite Radio and GPS navigation can all be incorporated – with your new stereo, or the stock radio on your bike. Should you require a mount for any of these options we offer quality mounts that are designed specifically for motorcycles, and often are made specifically for your bike and to reduce the impact of road vibrations on the electronics of your gadget.

More, Give me more!

Great to hear! We are not always happy with just an upgrade either! When you looking for more than the norm, we can deliver.

Harley Saddlebag with custom speaker mount and grill in lid.

Bag Lid on Harley, stealth look with wicked sound and bass, no repainting required!

We offer specially designed bag speaker upgrades from www.sidecarcycles.com that allow you to add an extra pair of speakers to your bike in a unique way that keeps them stealthy hidden, and takes up barely any room in your bags. This upgrade dramatically improves the overall volume that your stereo can achieve and delivers a massive upgrade in bass output and quality. We have systems specially designed for Harley Davidson baggers – ElectraGlide (FLHTC), StreetGlide (FLHX), RoadGlide (FLTRU) and Ultra Classic (FLHTCU) models. We can also customize a solution for most any bike.

Looking for more up front? Add speakers in your lower pockets with our machined mounting plate solutions, available in black & chrome, or get them color matched to your bike.

Want to add a dedicated subwoofer for real bass output? We do hidden installs of subwoofers in bags and packs that deliver solid kick to your system that will have heads turning and your ears smiling!

So from a mild upgrade in speakers to a full blown refit and replacement, or a complete custom audio system for your motorcycle we have what you need, and the technicians to do it right. What are you waiting for?

New Mazda 3 System: Stealth Upgrade

Posted on June 29th, 2011 in Installs by :: 3 Comments

Today we had a chance to redo the audio system on a stock 2006 Mazda 3 Sport. While this car had the factory audio upgrade (6 disc changer, slightly better speakers), the owner was never quite happy with it and asked Driven Audio to help build a better system. The full setup involved the installation of all new JL speakers as well as a 600 watt amplifier and a 12″ subwoofer.

The owner is an avid camper, so we wanted to preserve as much space in the hatchback as we could. To that end, we decided to use a slim subwoofer and hide the subwoofer and amplifier in the spare tire well underneath the floor of the hatchback. This involved raising the floor of the hatchback slightly, but resulted in the subwoofer and amplifier being completely concealed. Better yet, the entire trunk space was still available for storing camping gear!

Amplifier and Slim Subwoofer

The owner was extremely pleased with the end result, and will be blasting some tunes out in the great outdoors again soon!
